In Spirit

I remember the first time,
As I sat in bed at the end of day,
With outstretched hands and downcast eyes.

I sat still, and whispered Your name.
Over and again, into the silence,
The Word as prayer on my lips.

In the darkness,
I sensed that You were with me.
Soul and self faded into the shadows.

My whole body trembled, but not from fear,
As Your Spirit danced through me,
Enveloping and embroiling me in Love.

In that moment, I felt safe, held – wanted.
Washed in mercy, and covered by grace,
I was singing and sighing with the Holy One.
