Isaiah 42 1-4

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will bring justice to the nations.
2 He will not shout or cry out,
or raise his voice in the streets.
3 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
4 he will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth.
In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”

Isaiah 42 1-4 (NIV)

A bruised reed isn’t one simply marked-
It is a reed that is damaged
at the heart of its being,
such that it could never give up grain.

One that is clinging to the edge of life,
But useless to others.

I have been bruised.
Not so that you could see,
The damage runs deep;
Gentle touch on my past can be agony.

Yet, God used that bruised reed,
To show us Jesus’ love.
Even the useless was not forsaken,
But brought to healing by Him.

Maybe, bruised though I am,
Jesus can use me, too.
