Chess God

Sometimes, You seem to me
Pure, unadulterated white.
Warm, gentle, loving,
Light, upon light, upon light.

Other times, You feel distant,
Rolling, black, as thunder.
Angered, cold, forbidding –
A God ready to tear me asunder.

It’s like a game of chess.
Black God, white God, black God.
No in-between God.
Which is You, God?
Black, or white, or both, God?
Or God – are You more grey?
