Spent

As I kneel,
with bowed head
and clasped hands,
I can offer You no more
than this posture of prayer;

There are no more tears
left to cry,
No more words left to utter
for Your hearing.

In this sorrow,
I am spent.

All I can do
is come to this place
Time and again
to be with You.

……..

As I curl up,

burrow my head

into my chest,

hands clasped tightly around me

I know that

today, I can offer the world no more

than this posture of passivity;

There are no more tears

left to cry,

No more words left to utter

for its hearing.

In this sorrow,

I am spent.

All I can do

is be still

and know

that this –

this is enough

for now.
